Fatherland Famagusta. The land that gave birth to and nurtured my father, Solon. A part of my childhood; with the orchards in Agios Loukas and Agios Georgios of Spatharikou invading our daily life; with the windmills playing with the fragrant blossoms of the orange groves; with the beach in the area of Karaolos caressing the blonde sandy beach. And further down, Salamis with its ancient theatre. Father was taken from us too soon; in November 2001. He did not manage to make even the one-day return trip. Perhaps, his heart couldn’t bear it. Having obtained permission from the United Nations, I made this trip in March 2003 with my photographic camera in hand, aiming to capture the so familiar and at the same time so alienated city of Evagoras!
