«SOUL-PICS / ΨΥΧΟ-ΓΡΑΦΙΕΣ» exhibition and book of the award-winning photographer Antigoni Solomonidou Droussiotou. A selection of 54 photographs dating from 1997 to 2023. A period that reflects the transition from black and white film to digital reality and from the darkroom to the virtual space of the lightroom. Following an almost embodied, performative process, Antigoni photographs the still bodies of her models in motion. Familiar faces from her environment, in places charged with energy. The exhibition condenses different moments of time into the same image, blends forms with environment, incorporates the concept of fluidity and randomness, and captures fleeting and ephemeral aspects. Attempting to capture “the timeless piece of deification” that she identifies as the soul, she goes beneath external phenomena and beyond the visible. Through the Herculean connection of opposites, soul and body, she composes a hymn about life, passion and love. As Antigoni notes in her introduction “it is a book for me. For the creative years we journeyed together. For “Soul-Pics”. For “… in body”. For “from Light…”. For the four plus one travelers who trusted my call. Who let the uninvited light outline the body incorrectly; who together, without any frills, without cloaks of life, were searching for the soul in magical places; that timeless piece of deification; who became, for a fraction of a second, one with the energy of the universe”.
The book includes the poetry section “Fragments” by Cypriot award-winning author Antonis Georgiou and introduction by Art Historian and exhibition curator Bia Papadopoulou. Publisher “To Rodakio”.
